The Charter Furniture Solutions design team had the pleasure of heading to a university in Tennessee to do a complete student housing makeover.

After a site visit, a few conference and FaceTime calls, the design was conceived and the installation was completed in just a few weeks.

Student housing amenity center redesign

As you can see in the before photos below, this university housing community was aging and needed help. The needs of the students had evolved over time and a redesign would help utilize the space better for its residents.

The outdated color scheme needed to be freshened and brightened up and the finishes and lighting needed attention as well. We made the following suggestions:

  • Adding a German schmear application on the brown brick walls to brighten the activity room
  • Adding the cedar beams in the main area for architectural interest
  • Removing the ceiling fans to make way for bright and energy efficient LED light fixtures
  • Removing many built in counters/desks so freestanding furniture could be put in place
  • Updating the flooring to durable vinyl plank

Our design team added more seating areas for residents to easily gather and visit with one another. We kept the design gender neutral so anyone would feel right at home.

Playful art hangs in the student housing center (everyone likes donuts!) And, clean lines and geometric patterns in the art give the design a modern and sophisticated look.

Our design team installed this project in two days and enjoyed seeing the transformation. The end result is a housing center that is not only beautiful but more functional for the students.
